Tom Portz is a Wisconsin native and proud father of two boys, currently living in Brookfield, Wisconsin. A lifelong problem-solver, Tom built a dual career in finance and design innovation while pursuing his passion for visual art. He is the founder of Sterling Capital Management, Inc., where he focuses on investment advisory and portfolio management, and the founder of Lumineux Corporation, a studio dedicated to design and patent development. Tom is a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and was recognized by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago with a Certificate for Forecasting Excellence—2021 Best Overall Forecast. He is an eleven-time Milwaukee Magazine Five Star Wealth Manager award recipient for Best in Client Satisfaction, and his insights have appeared in numerous financial articles and interviews.

Educated at Purdue University, the University of Cambridge, and the University of Oxford, Tom also brings an inventor’s mindset to his creative work, holding 10 U.S. patents and 6 Canadian Industrial Design Certificates. His art has earned recognition from the Wisconsin Arts Alliance and the University of Wisconsin, and he has exhibited at Riverside Galleries (2011). Whether building portfolios, developing patented designs, or composing abstract paintings, Tom’s work is guided by clarity, structure, and curiosity—qualities that connect his disciplines and define his approach.
